Warming up the Tummy

As the temperature once again turns a little chilly and we expect some freezing rain tomorrow, it is important to keep ourselves warm through and through. This is also important with our furry family members.

Did you know that many of the foods we eat, we can also share with our pets? With that being the case, today I am sharing with you a recipe for Chicken Soup that both you and your pets can enjoy.

Classic chicken soup

o 1 (3-4 pound) whole chicken

o 2 quarts water

o ½ pound carrots, washed and chopped coarsely

o ½ pound carrots, peeled and sliced about an inch on the bias

o 3 stalks celery, chopped coarsely

o 2 stalks celery, stringed and sliced on the bias

o 2 bay leaves

o Dash of sea salt

o ¼ cup of parsley, finely chopped

Wash the chicken and place it in a large pot with water, chopped carrots, chopped celery, bay leaves, and salt. Place on medium-high heat, cover and cook for about 45 minutes or until the chicken starts coming off the bone. Remove chicken and place on a platter to cool. Cook the broth another 30-40 minutes.

Remove chicken meat from bone. Strain the broth and return it to the pot. Ass the sliced carrots and sliced celery. Cook over medium-low heat until you can easily put a fork through the carrots.

Add the chicken meat back to the pot, add the finely chopped parsley and cook for an additional 5 minutes before serving.

Make some brown rice and pour the soup over it for some added fiber to you and your pet's diet!

This soup can be in exchange to your dog's meal or you can reduce his normal food and pour some of this over it.

Freeze your leftovers for later meals!
